Meet the band

The Fabulous Room 21 Big Band has 5 sections bringing you the unmistakeable sounds from the 1920s through to the 1940s.

Rhythm Section

The rhythm section includes Double Bass, Drums, Piano and Guitar. This is the engine room that powers the band, providing the speed and consistent tempo throughout the music. Their favourite number is "Sing! Sing! Sing!"

The different types of Trombone from the very low sounding bass trombone to the mellow tenor give us everything from the soft and melodic through to the strong and powerful. When we let the four of them off the leash they love to play "Cage Free Trombones".

The highest of our brass instruments, this 4-strong section is led by the 1st Trumpet but ironically many of the solos are taken by the 2nd Trumpet player. Listen out for our very own "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy".

The sax section consists of Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophones and you may also spot one of them picking up a clarinet for some of our numbers. The saxophones are at the heart of the band, providing that very distinctive sound of 1940s music made famous by the likes of the Glenn Miller Band.

The vocal section within the Fabulous Room 21 Big Band balances the music with memorable songs from the 1940s. Keeping things authentic, the band has a solo male and solo female singer as well as a female close harmony group who we call The Axholme Sisters. Amongst others you'll hear them singing songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald plus of course The Andrews Sisters.
